Run for Sherry, February 11th

I learned of the abduction and murder of Sherry Arnold from her cousin, fellow blogger Beth at Shut Up and Run.  Sherry went out for her morning run on January 7th and never came home- all that has been found of her was her right Brook’s running shoe.  The story was chilling, almost too tragic for someone like me to handle- I can only imagine the myriad of emotions her close friends family are going through. Boobs Boobs Boobs

I thought that might get your attention but get your heads out of the gutter, people, this post is about sports bras.

It has been a personal goal to find The Best running bra in order to avoid the inevitable low-hanging-boob effect from too much bouncing and not enough support.  I read once that when you run, your breasts can move up to EIGHT inches in all different directions- up, down, all around, to the right, to the left, and out- so, as we female runners age, supporting the girls in order to avoid too much tissue damage from all that jostling is pretty important no matter what size you may be. Auction for a Cure

It’s Officially Auction Time!!!

I joined Team in Training last May to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and ran my first marathon, the Nike Women’s Marathon on October 16th.  It was such an amazingly fulfilling experience, I became more than dedicated to the cause and to all the wonderful people and honorees I met along the way. Not wanting to quit, I have decided to train for another marathon with TNT and will be running in the San Diego Rock n’ Roll Marathon on June 3rd. In order to run my second 26.2, I have pledged to raise $2250 for the cause and train six days a week from now until the race in order to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. Today’s Reason: (In)Consistency

It happened again… I fell off the running wagon.  Yesterday was the first time my sneakers hit the pavement in 9 days.  9 whole days. Wow.  I’m sure that begs the question, “Why?” and I can answer that in just one word: vacation.

Even though I was leaving for Utah on a Thursday, I started celebrating my impending 4-blissful-days-in-the-snow-no-hubby-no-kids-adventure that Tuesday.  Somewhat akin to “senioritis” my mind was mentally already on the trip, already in Utah, happily relaxing by the fire.  So no, I did not go to the gym on Wednesday nor did I go to track that Thursday before my departure.  Figured I “needed” the rest.  Figured I earned that “down time”. Figured packing for the snow was “hard” enough.  (And I don’t even ski!)

I'm a pro at resting!

Oakland Adventure Boot Camp

People often ask what got me started down this long road of running and my answer is always the same: Anna and Jennie of Oakland Adventure Boot Camp.  These two women turned me from a body at rest to one in motion- and I haven’t stopped since.

My first day of class with Anna and Jennie was on May 9th, 2007.  My two children were 5 months and 17 months old, I was closing in on the 200 pound mark and knew I had to make a change.  I was already awake at the crack of dawn with the babies so I announced my intentions to hubby, registered for the 6:30am boot camp 3 days a week, bought a set of 5 pound weights, water bottle, and yoga mat at Target and mentally prepared myself for the challenge. Race Recap: Brazen’s New Year’s Day 10K

If you know me and/or if you follow my blog, you know that I was very anti-holidays this year.  When New Year’s Eve finally arrived and we started gearing up to head to Sonoma with BFFs Andrea & Josh to go for our NYE wine tasting extravaganza- I had a mental breakdown.  And it wasn’t pretty. Imagine me, a grown woman, throwing my body on the ground, banging hands and feet wildly, holding my breath and screaming, “NO NO NO I DON’T WANNA!!!”

I exaggerate but yeah, I basically threw a tantrum.  Hubby said, “Uh… I think you should do us all a favor and stay home.” Continue reading

New Year, New Plan, Same Mojo

Happy New Year, blogosphere!  What a year it’s been- I’m really glad to be done with 2011!  2011 was not the best year for me personally, I admit, but my running “career” was greatly advanced, highlighted by completing my first marathon.  Going into 2012, I aim to complete a second marathon.

If you have been following, you know that I originally planned to run the Oakland Marathon; however, a girl reserves the right to change her mind!  And I have.  My goal is now the San Diego Rock n’ Roll Marathon in June and I will be fundraising for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society once again to get there.

I've got you in my sights, San Diego!
