Meatless Monday: #elf4health

Yesterday I was super duper hungover, and I… oh, wait… that’s a HORRIBLE way to start a post that has the word “health” in the title!  Geesh!  Oh well…

Anyhoo, as I was saying, I was basically laying down all day yesterday and reading lots of blogs and catching up on Twitter and saw a bunch of people writing and hashtagging #elf4health. I clicked around and found bloggers Elle at Nutritionella and Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean and their Elf For Health holiday challenge so I signed right on up!

I am partnered with a buddy and every day we are presented a new health challenge- we will exchange emails and tweets about our progress and help motivate each other as well share recipes and workout tips. Today is the first day of the challenge and we are tasked to go meatless.  And after the indulgences of the holiday, I am oh so ready for that! Continue reading

Virtually Running

For the last 3 years, our family has participated in a local turkey trot (Hubby actually runs it, I don’t- he only does 2 races a year, so I let him have that one… boo..) but this year, Hubby put off his registration and the trot got stuffed!  All sold out!

I’ve been catching up all on my blog reading lately and came across a fellow blogger’s list of virtual turkey trots and I thought, “Why not?”  I chose to go with Daily Vitamin F’s virtual trot (as fellow running mom Kiley was kind enough to donate one of her Running Sucks shirts to my auction for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society earlier this year), printed my bib and hit the road for my OWN thanksgiving day 5K.

Mental Problems

I am the first to admit I have mental problems.  Nothing that’s professionally medicated or commit-able or harm-to-self-and-others type of mental problems, just your typical, run of the mill, what’s-the-meaning-of-life-and-why-are-we-here sort of stuff…and I haven’t felt this way since the Great Post-Marathon Depression of 2011.

And that, dear readers, is why I have not written a blog post in such a long time- my mind is consumed with where I am now in my life, where I am going, and trying to figure out what is actually important.  Being so in my head right now and somewhat confused about life has made it very hard to get my thoughts OUT there, so please forgive my absence as well as the following attempt to explain myself.

Happy 1st Blogiversary!

Yes, I did actually stick a candle in a Luna Bar… I’m classy like that.

It was exactly one year ago today that I decided I wanted to start a blog and wrote my first blog post ever, embarking on this journey to chronicle my thoughts in and around this hobby of mine- running.  Wow.  I can’t believe it’s already been one whole year!

A lot has happened these past 12 months.  When I initially started Running 4 The Reason, I was in a really weird place in my life- I was just coming off an injury and returning to running, a lot of my personal relationships were being tested, and I knew I needed to start something new, something just for me, something bigger than myself, something that I could sit back and be proud of…. so, I joined Team in Training, decided to run my first marathon, started this blog, and I am so glad I did! If you’ve read my recent sports bra review, Boobs Boobs Boobs, you know how much I love Handful!  And right now they are having a contest… here’s how we can both win:

First, grab a protein bar and a cup of coffee and check out this new video by Handful with lots of athletic women looking happy, strong, powerful, and super cute in their awesome Handful bras (I’ve got that one in pink and am wearing it right now- LOVE!!!)…

Run for Sherry, February 11th

I learned of the abduction and murder of Sherry Arnold from her cousin, fellow blogger Beth at Shut Up and Run.  Sherry went out for her morning run on January 7th and never came home- all that has been found of her was her right Brook’s running shoe.  The story was chilling, almost too tragic for someone like me to handle- I can only imagine the myriad of emotions her close friends family are going through. Running is hard. Blogging is harder.

There.  I said it.

That's not me. I'm much cuter when stumped. And, I shave.

I have been trying to find the time to sit down and write a blog post for about a week now and now that I finally am, I realize that this little blog o’ mine requires a lot more attention and thoughtfulness than I have been giving it lately!  When my life gets crazy busy, as it is right now, the blog takes a back seat and falls to the very bottom of my To Do List- if I can’t find the time to figure out something as simple as my grocery list, how am I going to find the time to write something thoughtful, witty, and insightful? The Liebster Blog Award

I was quite touched to hear that my friend Jen, of poor scientist. will blog for food., had nominated my happy little blog for the Liebster Blog award!  To quote Jen, “it’s basically like a blog chain letter, only much cooler. The idea is to spread the love from one small blog (i.e., less than 200 followers) to other small blogs, in order to build community, readership, and karma. The origins are hard to track down, but “liebster” in German means “dearest,” so I guess the idea is to spread the word about the blogs near and dear to your heart.”

Isn’t that awesome?!?!?!  Thank you, Jen, and thank you for reading! Continue reading
